So many times, I don’t want to start something because I’m afraid I’ll make a mistake.
I’ll be working towards my goals, have set backs, then give up or feel bad about myself because things aren’t going as I had planned.

Diamond did not enjoy her haircut, but I have her shaved down for health reasons. Normally, I wouldn’t have her shaved this short, but she has been having trouble with hairballs. This solution seems to work best for her.

I tell her she is still beautiful wit her lion cut.

Maybe you are on a sel improvement journey and it seems overwhelming to become who you want to be. TAke it one step at a time.

Whether it’s one question to answer in your journal, a boundary that needs to be set, a difficult conversation that needs to be had, an assignment you need to finish or something else you’ve been putting off.

Break it down into smaller steps. Your success after completing each step will give you momentum and the strength to keep going.

I change it up a bit each day.

I start with cardio and then some core, upper or lower body strength and end it with stretches.
What is your workout routine like?
I would’ve never thought I would be posting about fitness on Instagram, but here I am. Being physically fit was a goal, but I thought it was unreachable.

I still have more progress to make, but I have made great progress so far.

I like this quote because if you don’t examine your life, how will you know where you’ve been vs where you want to go?
The perfect way to examine your life is through journaling which is what I’m talking about this week.

If you’re not into journaling, there are other ways to document, learn from and share your life.
If you are an artist, you can create visual or musical representations of things.

If your mind works faster than your brain and you prefer to talk, record voice notes or take videos.

Make a vision board in reverse.
What have you loved, accomplished, made you happy etc?

Sometimes if we can look at our past and even our present in new ways, we can have a better tomorrow.
It’s also okay to be satisfied with what you have now.

We are all at different points in our journey.

How often do you get quality time with your kids? How often do you get quality time with your kids?

I know this is a great source of mom guilt for me. I don’t get as much time as I’d like. Especially during the week. Today, we went on a picnic and spent some time at the playground. Yesterday, we took a walk to explore some of the neighborhood.
As a teacher mom, I find that my daughter gets the version of me with no patience. The one who is exhausted and doesn’t want to talk to anyone. The grumpy bear. The kids I work with get the better version and there is so much guilt over that. 

What causes you the most mom guilt?
I may be working on something new.

This quote is inspiring to me because if we can change our attitudes, the things we already have can be seen in a whole new light.

When I bought my home, there were things about it that I did not like. The sink in the bathroom was too small. My backyard didn’t have a fence. I didn’t like the appliances. Some things hadn’t been updated in years. Were they functional? Yes. Did it look appealing? Not always.

Even with the things I didn’t like, I still had a beautiful home. The structure was in good shape. Everything in the home was safe for my daughter. It was clean. It was in a nice neighborhood.

Instead of seeing the things that annoyed me, I saw that my new house served its purpose. Over time, I updated things and added the personal touches that made it the home I have today.

If you don’t take risks, you won’t get the reward. Have you ever felt like you are between two worlds or two chapters? Waiting for the next thing? I do. Both personally and professionally. That is what a transition can feel like at times. We have a foot in one world and one foot in another. It’s also common to feel stuck when things aren’t moving fast enough. When we feel stuck, one way to move forward is to focus on a different area of life for a bit, so you are still moving in a positive direction even if it has nothing to do with what you are working on.

I put string over the top of a jar, put cotton balls over the top and used an eye dropper and food coloring to make the rain. Often we fall into the same patterns of doing the same things over again, but expecting the same results. This is what 12 step programs call insanity.
Sometimes that means doing something really difficult and uncomfortable. It could range from putting yourself out there, introducing yourself to someone new, speaking in public or even ending a relationship. Sometimes tto have something you’ve never had means getting away from your family of origin or the people you grew up with.
In a career change process, it may mean learning a new skill, going on that interview or that scary first day at a new job. However, I mention those more personal things above because you may need to do some of that work first before you can become truly successful in a new role. If you have personal blocks holding you in a place of fear, you have to release them before moving forward.

A career transition is definitely an uncomfortable process and that is something you have to prepare for. You have to deal with exploring your true values, getting honest about your current job, job searching, rejections, companies that don’t call back, interviews and having the confidence to keep going. If you are starting your own business, you will feel many of the same struggles. Building up your confidence to sell, feeling rejection, taking risks not only with your business venture, but putting yourself out there every day. Stepping out of your comfort zone is like a muscle, you have to use it for it to get stronger.
